“I very nearly lost my mind,†admitted Across the Universe star Jim Sturgess about staying in Las Vegas for over a month to shoot 21, his latest film.

Jim, who won fans as the lead in the Beatles music-inspired Across, plays one of the M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) students who are recruited by an unorthodox math professor (Kevin Spacey) to make millions of dollars at blackjack tables in Las Vegas casinos.

The high stakes action-adventure, directed by Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Monster-in-Law), is based on Ben Mezrich’s Bringing Down the House, which reveals how a real-life team of gifted college students beat casinos in Vegas and elsewhere around the world by counting cards and using an elaborate system of signals.

Jim gave an interview to Empire Online the day of the Heartless photocall. You can stream it here. He and Clémence Poésy talk all about Heartless in it, Jim mentions the Spider-Man musical once again as well. I’ve made captures for the gallery.

Also, as reported earlier, I told you Fifty Dead Men Walking was being marketed at Cannes and the other day we have learned the film has gotten a distribution deal with company Handmade. The agreements states it will have major theatrical distributors throughout the world so hopefully this means the film will not only premiere in the UK later this year but other countries as well. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Finally the promised scans update is here! I have added scans of Jim’s features in five magazines plus some clippings! I’d like to give a huge thanks to Cassie yet again for so many of these! Lady you are a doll. I believe we’re only missing a few magazines now (Interview 2007’s full article, NY Times 2008, and some misc. pages). I’m doing my best to buy these when I can financially manage it but it’s getting quite costy so this could be it for a little while, but who knows ;) Remember if you have any origianl scans not in the gallery (or know of some more featured publications) please send them in, full credit will be given.

By the way, Jim is featured in magazine ES from May 19, 2008. As the magazine is only available for one day in the London area with the Evening Standard newspaper I had no way of getting this. There is a copy available on ebay but I don’t have the money for this right now. If you have a copy, please consider donating scans. It would be highly appreciated!

Fifty Dead Men Walking is being marketted at this week’s Cannes Film Festival in France. The Guardian has published an article regarding the film, while there isn’t anything directly Jim related here are some excerpts regarding production status and what not:

“The film company have told me this is only loosely based on my life but it’s my life all the same. I was shot here in England by the IRA for what I did to the Belfast Brigade. My mother’s house was attacked, my brother left for dead after a beating long after I was gone from Belfast and in hiding. They should have represented my story more accurately and fairly.” - Real life Martin McGartland

A spokesman for Future Films Limited, the company that co-financed Fifty Dead Men Walking, stressed that the movie was still in post-production and said McGartland had not seen it, so was not placed to make a final judgement.

Big thanks to Steve for the heads up! I have also added one on set image of Jim filming in beautiful Ireland.

And be sure check out a very old and rare picture of Jim on the set of 2002’s TV movie The Quest. Thanks goes out to Johnny for both pictures!

Jim is featured in the May 2008 issue of Men’s Vogue (US), it’s a 6 page spread and I have added the scans to the gallery. I’ll admit I don’t personally love this photoshoot, It looks really out of Jim’s comfort zone - being a little too posed and awkward and what not, but obviously I’m thrilled to see Jim in mags so that is always exciting. Regardless it’s Jim, so enjoy the scans!
