Jim Sturgess has become a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. After the big musical hit Across the Universe, he’s joined up with Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth in Columbia Pictures’ 21! Next, he’s rumored to be reuniting with Universe director Julie Taymor for a turn on Broadway in Spider-man the Musical. At the 21 junket this week in Las Vegas, Sturgess talked about the project a bit to the IESB during an interview that included 21 co-stars Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth. IESB: Jim, rumors are rampant that you will be working with Julie Taymor again in Spider-man the Musical… Jim Sturgess: Yeah… Kevin Spacey: Oh! So it’s Spider-man the musical? Somebody last night told me it was Superman the Musical, they must have been mixed up, and I was like, “Really?” Sturgess: I wish it was Batman actually, he’s my favorite of the superheroes. But, no we did a workshop, she [Taymor] just phone me up and said, “would you and Evan [Rachel Wood] and I would come down and help out with this Spider-man musical that I’m making?” And I was like, “yeah I’d love to.” Evan is one of my best friends and it was a chance to all get together and it was a fun thing to do for two weeks in New York City playing songs with Bono and Edge about Spider-man (laughs). At the end of the two weeks we performed an entire structure of what the whole play was going to be for Marvel Comics and Sony and stuff like that. So it’s there and Julie is definitely going to make it but whether I’ll be in it or not I don’t know. IESB: Sony loves you, any chance you’ll be the next Peter Parker in the Spider-man 4 theatrical film? Sturgess: No. Stay tuned as the IESB posts it’s entire 21 junket coverage including the complete interview with Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth! 21 opens in theaters March 21st!
